My Favorite Things: Right Now at Least

So as you know by now, I'm a minimalist, so I'm not going to tell you to buy things. When I say my favorite things I mean my favorite books, podcasts, music, and other stuff for self development in general. I've been asked to recommend my favorites of all of these things in the past so here is a list of what I'm obsessed with right now. P.S. I'm not getting paid to recommend any of these so you can trust them :)

Books

How to Win Friends & Influence People

This is always the first book I recommend whenever I'm asked. This book helps me every single day in one way or another. It's critical to know what motivates people and how to effectively motivate them and get them to like you. I always preach that having people actually like you and care about you is the secret to success. This book will definitely help you figure out how to do that. PLUS I listened to the audiobook during my commute and it was much easier to fit into my day.

Amazon : It is literally $0.99 used... or better yet get a library card and rent it.

Buffet

Okay so everyone knows that I very much disagree with capitalism in the ideological since, however, I am fully aware that in order to be successful you must work within the capitalist system (at least until the revolution). This book is a MUST if you want to be financially successful. It describes how Warren Buffet (one of the only billionaires I would actually WANT to have dinner with) created his billion dollar company from scratch. It also lists his habits that have made him so successful (such as reading 400 pages per day!).

Amazon: again... $0.99

The Man Who Quit Money

The opposite of Buffet... I just finished reading this book and it gave such great insight to so many aspects of capitalism that I hadn't thought of before. It actually spends a lot of time on religion and how he believes one cannot live like Jesus and live in a capitalist society. SUPER interesting and insightful. It's short so it's a quick read, which is also nice.

Amazon: $0.01

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck

I'm halfway through this one and I'm obsessed! The author talks about how the secret to being happy is to stop trying to be positive ALL THE TIME. This book is so refreshing and bold and such a great read. I can't put it down.

Amazon: $6.00 (I bought the kindle version to be kinder to the environment <3)

Podcasts

Optimal Living Daily

This podcast is made up of a narrator who reads different blog articles to you EVERY DAY. They're only like 10 minutes long so I listen to it while I get ready in the morning. There's this podcast and also Optimal Finance Daily and Optimal Health Daily. They're all great and I love that they're short because I can't listen to 10 podcasts a day that are all an hour long

iTunes: OLD OFD OHD

TED Radio Hour

As you already know, I love learning about whatever I possibly can. I'm not one of those people who is only interested in becoming an expert in one topic and doesn't care to learn about anything else. I LOVE LEARNING. This podcast has a completely different topic every week, and sometimes they just play TED Talks for you to listen to. It's an hour long, but you learn so much from it that it's worth it.

iTunes

The Skinny Confidential

My friends and sister are hooked on this podcast already because I made them subscribe. So Lauryn Evarts is a lifestyle blogger, and her and her fiance Michael are such a power couple and super interesting to listen to. I can't always listen to academic-style podcasts, I need a fun one that makes me forget the world is hurting and that's what this one does. They do have great self development messages in each episode though so I use it for inspiration!

iTunes

Planet Money

NPR has so many podcasts so scroll through them and pick whatever you want they're all good. I am particularly in love with this one because I know relatively little about finance and markets, etc. They go over different aspects of money; for example there was just an episode about the guy who invented the self checkout machine. These are only 30 minutes and I listen to them on my way to work.

iTunes

Music

I could write a novel on music, it's such a huge part of my life. I made a few playlists and put them on the blog here. The Playlist of Champions are the songs I'm obsessed with and listen to every day.
